Edwards Communities’ Around Town Picks: Fun Things to Do This October

October brings crisp air, bright sun and the beautiful turning of the leaves….all signs that Fall is in full swing in Columbus, Ohio! There are lots of fun activities taking place around the city this month! So whether you live in Columbus, are visiting relatives, or are here on business, we hope you can get out and enjoy the festivals, nature trails, and sporting events our city has to offer!

Edwards Communities has put together a list of events we think you shouldn’t miss this month. Here are our “Around Town Picks” for October:

 

Colo’s Classic Car Show Presented By Nationwide and Featuring Kindig-it Custom Cars – October 1 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

This classic car show features your favorite classic, muscle, and low-rider cars from all over Ohio. Admission to view the cars is included in your Zoo Membership or general admission to the Zoo for that day, and the cars will be parked in the Zoo’s Jungle Jack’s Landing and Colo’s Cove.

 

Columbus Italian Festival, October 2, 6-8; 720 Hamlet Street

The Columbus Italian Festival has been a celebration of Italian heritage since 1980. Located on the grounds of St. John The Baptist Italian Catholic Church, the Italian community comes together in a three-day celebration with the finest in food, entertainment and culture.

 

Ohio State Football – Saturdays, Home and Away

Columbus is all about Buckeye football this month, with home games on October 7 against Maryland and October 28 against Penn State; and an away game at Nebraska on October 14. Even if you can’t snag tickets, there are plenty of places to tailgate in Columbus and cheer our Buckeyes to a win, including The Barn, Edwards’ private club!

 

All Hallow’s Eve – October 14 & 21; 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., Ohio Village

Fun for the whole family, All Hallows’ Eve’s old-fashioned entertainment includes a retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hallow by a bonfire, pumpkin carving, fortune telling, games and crafts.

 

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon & Half Marathon, October 15

Ranked as one of the top 20 marathons in the US by Runner’s World, and as one of the top 10 fall marathons by USA Today, The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon has raised more than $6 million dollars for the hospital over the last six years. The Marathon is now in its 38th year and is the largest Marathon in Ohio. In its 12th year, the 1/2 Marathon was the largest ½ Marathon in Columbus.

 

Dublin’s Halloween Spooktacular – October 19, 3 p.m. – 8 p.m., Dublin Community Recreation Center

Come in costume and enjoy some Halloween fun both inside and outside of DCRC. The Haunted Trail, Trunk or Treat Trail, pumpkin carving, and sing-a-longs will entertain the kids, along with visits from their favorite pirates and princesses.

 

Boo at the ZooOctober 20-22; 27-29, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

The whole family will enjoy this “merry-not-scary” Halloween event of heroic proportions. The event includes an “Animals on Safari” Howl-oween style, a hayride, Pumpkin Junction Express, a 4D theater, special appearances from Batman, Wonder Woman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and much more.

 

Creepside Festival Presented by Schneider InsuranceOctober 21, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Creekside Park & Plaza, Gahanna

Put on your costumes and dress up the kids for this free event appropriate for all ages. The event features live music, games, activities, haunted trail, trick or treat with local organizations and plenty of candy.

 Circleville Pumpkin Show – October 21-24, streets of downtown Circleville

Located about 30 miles south of Columbus, the Circleville Pumpkin Show is a fall tradition for many central Ohioans. The four-day event includes every sort of pumpkin-flavored item imaginable, parades, crafts, vegetables and fruits.
