Edwards Communities’ Around Town Picks: Fun Things to Do this August


August, the final full month of summer, brings fun events, annual festivals, exciting concerts and endless entertainment to the city of Columbus! There is still a lot of summer fun to be had before kids go back to school and Friday night football begins! Whether you’re a sports fan, appreciate culture, support non-profits or enjoy the nightlife, Columbus has something for you.

Edwards Communities has put together a list of events we think you shouldn’t miss! Here are our “Around Town Picks” for August: 

The Ohio State Fair, through August 5, Ohio Expo Center and State Fair
This year marks the 164th Ohio State Fair with activities, exhibits, sporting competitions, fine arts show, kids’ entertainment, exotic animals and much more! The Midway features more than 60 exhilarating rides, Kiddieland rides, and favorite fair goodies from nearly 200 vendors. Visit their website for schedules and ticket information.

 

Dublin Irish Festival, August 3-5, 5200 Emerald Parkway, Dublin
All you need is Irish attitude to attend the largest three-day Irish Festival in the world! The Dublin Irish Festival is on its 30th year and will feature 65 acts, seven stages, and more than 535 performers. Over 100,000 attendees are expected, and tickets are available to purchase on their website and at area Giant Eagle stores.

 

Columbus Summer BeerFest, August 11, Express Live
This festival celebrates beer from down the street and around the country! Check out their website for this year’s beer list, or to volunteer or purchase tickets!

 

Columbus Crew, August 11, MAPFRE Stadium
The Columbus Crew has one home match this month against the Houston Dynamos! Visit their website for more information and to purchase tickets!

 

Columbus Half Marathon, 10K and 5K, August 12, Three Creeks (Sycamore Fields)
This 28-year-old race is Columbus’ original and oldest half marathon! The race is for anyone interested in health, fitness and fun. Participants receive a medal at the end of the raise. Learn more or sign up on their website.

 

2018 Columbus Food Truck Festival, August 17-18, Bicentennial Park
Ohio foodies unite! This admission-free festival features 50-60 of the best food trucks from Ohio and surrounding areas, live music on two stages, and special events! Fun for everyone! Check out their website for more information.

 

Wag! Dog Festival 2018, August 18, Prairie Oaks
Grab your BFF (Best Furry Friend) and head over to the coolest dog day ever! The event is free, and features trails to explore, lakes to cool off in, and activities to keep you entertained. Celebrate our canine-human friendships while bringing dog-service rescue groups, organizations, donors and potential adopters together.

 

Journey & Def Leppard, August 22, Jerome Schottenstein Center
Two of the world’s greatest rock bands come together for the tour of the year! The show will feature complete sets and all-new production from both bands, including their famous hits.

 

Columbus Clippers, August 1-31, Huntington Park
Our Columbus Clippers have 16 home games this month for you and your family to attend! They play Indianapolis, Louisville, Rochester, Syracuse and Toledo. Visit their website for more information and to purchase tickets!
