When you rent an apartment with Edwards Communities, you are choosing to make your home with us. We consider that an honor, and want your experience to be a positive one from the time you move in until the end of your lease. With over 30 years of experience under our belts, we have learned a few things about apartment living that we’d like to share with you.

We’ve compiled a full year’s worth of weekly tips and suggestions that will help you live successfully in your apartment —such as decorating ideas, safety pointers, cleaning shortcuts and more. Here’s our Tips List for the second quarter of 2018:

Tip #40: Work from home? Don’t be stuck working in your apartment. Use the community room or business center for a change of venue.

Tip #41: If you like to garden and have a balcony, plant rose bushes, vegetables or herbs in pots; or grow strawberries in a window box.

Tip #42: Overstuffed furniture is comfortable, but can make your living space look smaller. Look for furniture that was created for small living spaces.

Tip #43: Invest in dual-purpose furniture, like a storage ottoman or a futon couch that converts to a bed.

Tip #44: You can conserve water and save on your bill by shutting the water off while you brush your teeth, shortening your shower time and fixing leaky faucets timely.

Tip #45: Area rugs are like art for the floor! They can add color, texture and character to a room and are easier to change than paint.

Tip #46: Dress up old or outdated furniture with slip covers. You can change both the color and style of sofas, recliners or dining room chairs.

Tip #47: Everyone needs their sleep, so choosing a comfortable mattress, pillows and linens will be worth the investment. Hopefully you’ll be using them at least eight hours a day.

Tip #48: Be a considerate neighbor: Drive slowly in the parking lot, watch the noise level during the late night and early morning hours, and park only in your designated parking area. This makes living in proximity to others go so much smoother!

Tip #49: Most renters expect they’ll hear some noise from the neighbors. But you can drown some of it out with a fan, a sound machine or ear plugs. Don’t forget….if you can hear your neighbors’ footsteps or voices, they can also hear you.

Tip #50: Wall mounted shelves are great for organizing and storing your stuff! Put them over furniture and doorways.

Tip #51: Mirrors and other reflective surfaces give the illusion of added space. Don’t forget storage options in the corners of your room and underneath your bed.

Tip #52: Want to live in a more planet friendly environment? Use baking soda and vinegar to clean, or purchase non-toxic, environmentally safe cleaning and laundry supplies at a natural grocery store.
